OK.... there is a debate currently in my household....
Is contemporary fantasy... horror .. more relatable to modern people?
Personally when I read or watch something I want to be transported to a different time... a different place...  a different world. Are modern people so stiffed in their imagination that they need something contemporary to relate to? Can people no longer be transported to a different place and time for the story to take place? or must they have something contemporary to relate to.
I'm just asking. Comments are welcome.
Do you, when you read a novel or watch a movie, want to be transported to a different world other than the mundane world you live in? Or do you want a story that is set in your own world with just a little fantastical  realm or horror influence mixed it? Tell me what you think.

I'm rewriting the "hook" description of my dark fantasy novel, The Blood Witch. Let me know if you like it.
Thanks

Allysix, The Blood Witch, has been imprisoned in a secret location deep in the mountains for so long that many believe her to be only a myth from ages past. Lured by her bewitching magic, seventeen-year-old Jak is enticed into freeing Allysix, thereby unleashing her miasmic evil into the world.

Upon being freed, Allysix possesses the body of Jak's sweetheart, Brigette, and slaughters their village. Now Jak must fight the incipient evil and insatiable thirst that has been forced upon him. However, the witch's gift may be his only salvation.

Jak must battle, not only his own demon, but the diabolical dark magic that is awakening across the land, in order to make the choice that will save him and Brigette.

Growing up and going to school I hated reading. I would reuse book reports from year to year just so I wouldn't have to read more. It all changed when my friend, Bob, introduced me to Magician Apprentice, by Raymond E. Feist. This was the beginning of my love for fantasy and spurred my interest in reading. After that I read many, many, fantasy novels. My love is with epic fantasy that transports you to a different world where you can meet new interesting people and experience magic and fantastical situations. After many years of reading fantasy, I thought I would like to contribute back to the world of fantasy that had given me so much. I decided to write an epic fantasy tale in, "The Blood Reign Chronicles".  The first book, "The Blood Witch", is my premier novel. In writing it, and proof reading it, and after many revisions, from a epic fantasy lover's objective perspective, I think I have done the genre justice. Hopefully readers of my novel will feel the same, and be transported to a magical place, away from the mundane of everyday life, to a place they will come to love, and identify with. It is my sincere hope that readers will love the story and the "break" from reality. :)

But at long last Nissanyia finally stood before the door to the prison that held her Great Mistress. Nissanyia had sent everyone else away to wait above except for Tychus. She wasn’t sure why she had allowed the man to stay with her. The anticipation on Tychus’ face was plain as they began to slowly open the cell door. Butterflies rose in Nissanyia’s stomach and her heart was in her throat at the anticipated rewards she would be given by the Great Mistress for being the one who finally freed her after all this time.

I love fantasy books and the fact that they take you to new and magical places. However, I am fairly picky about the books I read. In writing my book, The Blood Witch, I tried to stay true to traditional epic fantasy and write a book that I would want to read. In the tradition of books like The Riftwar Saga, by Raymond E. Feist, and The Wheel of Time, by Robert Jordan, I tried to write a book that would appeal to fantasy fans both young and old. Hopefully, fantasy fans everywhere will read my book and make it part of their collection. I'm in no way comparing myself to the likes of Feist and Jordan. I just hope I have done the genre of epic fantasy justice.

The Blood Witch, Book 1 of The Blood Reign Chronicles is now available in paperback, ebook and even signed copies. Just go to my website, http://dar100.wix.com/bloodwitchbook and follow the links.

Allysix, The Blood Witch, has been imprisoned in a secret location for so long that many believe her to be only a myth from ages past. But when her cult-like worshipers attack Gethseena, the magical wards being held by the Priests of Ashteri threaten to crumble. With the fall of Gethseena, Nicoldani, a renowned Tovani warrior sets out to find the true location of the witch and stop her before it’s too late.

Jak is a seventeen-year-old boy living in an isolated farming village in the mountains of Hlifglynn, but a fateful encounter will change his peaceful life forever. Little does he know that Allysix is imprisoned beneath the very mountains which surround his home. Being lured by her bewitching magic, Jak is enticed into freeing Allysix, thereby unleashing her miasmic evil into the world. Now Jak is haunted by the witch’s insidious gift as he desperately struggles to maintain not only his humanity but also his sanity against the incipient evil and insatiable thirst which she forced upon him.

Upon being freed, Allysix possesses the body of Jak’s sweetheart, Brigette, and slaughters their village, leaving only Gin, Jak’s seven-year-old sister alive. Faced with the bitter loss of nearly everything he loves, Jak must find Brigette, while protecting Gin. Blinded by his love for Brigette and hindered by his fear of Allysix, Jak embarks on an impossible journey to save Brigette and himself. He finds help from Nicoldani, a stoic Tovani warrior who has been sent by the high priest of Ashteri to destroy the Blood Witch. They are joined by Benjim, a sagely old man whose past is as mysterious as his magic, but as evil awakens, they are confronted by terrifying pitfalls and diabolical dark magic throughout their perilous quest.

Jak’s own struggle can lead him on a path to his salvation or his doom. But unwilling to admit that Brigette and Allysix are now, one and the same; Jak’s choices could jeopardize everyone.
